Welcome to Melbrae!
Melbrae is the name of our house in the village of Rathmell, near Settle, North Yorkshire. ‘Mel’ from the last part of Rathmell and ‘Brae’ as we’re perched just at the top of the brow.
We grow some of our own fruit and veg, have lovely eggs laid by our much loved chickens and sell homemade cakes, biscuits, sweets and bread over the gate at weekends as a hobby (stress buster after a busy week in the office!).
The house has a little bit of history behind it, being part of the first non-conformist college started by Richard Frankland in the 1600′s. It has been said that our garden formed part of the college quadrangle. It certainly keeps throwing up some very old bits of pottery every time we dig or the ‘girls’ (our hens) start a new dust bath! If only walls could talk!
Have a look round our website – we keep updating it – and if you’re interested in any of the goodies we sell, pop in one weekend when you’re passing through the village. Look for the Melbrae egg sign hung outside our door.
If you’d like to know what’s baking in advance, send us your email address and we’ll pop you on our mailing list.
Look forward to seeing you soon!
